2020-2021 Tryout Update - May 26, 2020

General Precautions - The following precautions will be taken at all team practices, events, etc:

  • Any drill, skill or conditioning that can be done with 6 feet of distance between cheerleaders will be done in this manner.
  • Coaches will have masks and use them as necessary.
  • Hand sanitizer will be utilized at the beginning of tryouts/practice, between water breaks and any times deemed necessary.
  • Cones will be placed around the edges of the practice area in order for the cheerleaders to know where to place their stuff (water, keys, pom poms, etc.) Cones will also be utilized when waiting in lines for warmups and tumbling drills in order to maintain 6 feet of distance between cheerleaders.
  • Cheerleaders like to share pom poms, if someone forgets theirs, or water during breaks.  As a coaching staff, we will ensure that no sharing is allowed or occurring.
Parent Meeting - The parent meeting is planned for June 1, 2020 at 5:30 pm.  We are planning to offer this meeting as a virtual meeting.  If each candidate brings one parent plus coaches, we would be close to 50 and likely pushing the Governor's limits of 50 people. For this reason, we will hold this meeting completely online. We will send an email to all the parents whose student has filled out the application online.  If your child is planning on trying out and has not filled out the application, please have them fill it out as soon as possible.

Tryouts - Tryouts are planned for June 1-3.  The clinic days are June 1 and June 2 and tryouts are on June 3.

Tryout Clinic Day 1 - June 1, 2020

  • Time: 6:30 pm to 8 pm
  • Location: Outside the JDCHS Locker Rooms in the Grass
  • Attire: JDCHS Colors, hair in ponytail, cheerleading or athletic shoes
  • Schedule: Warm up, teach all the material, send videos at the end of the clinic
  • Due Today: Application, Letter of Consent with Signatures

Tryout Clinic Day 2 - June 2, 2020

  • Time: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm (Tumbling on cheerleading mats begins at 7 pm. Kids may leave when they are done tumbling.)
  • Location: JDCHS Aux Gym
  • Attire: JDCHS Colors, hair in ponytail, cheerleading or athletic shoes
  • Schedule: Warm up, review all the material taught, ask any final questions, assign times for tryouts

Tryouts Day 3 - June 3, 2020

  • Time: Will be assigned to each cheerleader starting at 5 pm
  • Location: JDCHS Dance Room
  • Attire: Plain white shirt, plain navy or black shorts, hair in clean ponytail, cheerleading or athletic shoes
  • Schedule: 10-15 minutes to warm up, review material and tumble, 10-15 minutes to tryout, 5 minute transition between groups
  • Candidates will be done 25 minutes after their assigned arrival time and will be asked to leave immediately.

2020-2021 Tryout Update - April 28

General Update

After talking with the school administration, our goal for tryouts this year is to make them as "normal" as possible.  As a coaching staff, we find there to be great benefit in doing tryouts in person.   The plan for right now is tryouts will be set for the first week of June, depending on what the CDC guidelines are during this time.  If we are allowed to be in groups larger than 20, we will hold in person tryouts.  If we are still restricted to smaller groups, we will hold tryouts virtually.  More information to come on both potential formats as the time gets closer.  We have set this timeframe as a cutoff date because we have to order uniforms in the beginning of June in order for them to arrive by football season.

Once we have a firm method moving forward, we will give more specific details/dates.  We wanted to give an update so everyone has an idea of what the coaching staff is planning as of right now. Thank you everyone for your patience. We will keep you updated as we have more details.

Parent Meeting

The parent meeting will be held at the beginning of the first clinic day.  If we are in person, this will be an hour before the clinic starts in the Faculty Room above the library.  If we are virtual, a link will be provided to you to watch live and ask any questions you may have.  The parent meeting will be scheduled for Monday, June 1 at 5:30 pm, with either method of delivery.  We may also look at offering both methods to allow parents/students the option to watch live, if needed.

Tryout Packet

We have updated the tryout packet to include dates that we are anticipating for the year.  As always, dates are anticipated and may change as this situation evolves. We have also decided to have everyone submit their tryout packets via a google form rather than submitting the hard copy.  The only portion of the packet that will need to be signed via a hard copy is the signature sheet that requires both the candidate and parents signatures.  The signature sheet will either be brought to clinic day 1 (June 1) or a picture can be taken and sent to the coaching staff.
